GER Mood Sweater Interprets Your Emotions & Displays Them Using LEDs

Often we are surrounded by people who can't express themselves well in words. Everyone seems to have a pot full of emotions inside, but the introverts among us aren't really able to display them. An interesting technological solution for these folks among us is the GER Mood Sweater by SENSOREE. Based on the same Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) technology used in the usual lie detectors, this specially designed sweater uses a soft sensor design called the Galvanic Extimacy Responder (GER). The GER Sweater reads excitement levels in the person wearing it and translates this data into a palette of affective colors. What GER promotes is extimacy, or externalized intimacy.

Our emotions somehow always get displayed on our skin. The way in which the conductance of human skin changes in response to stimuli is what is being used here. As you can see in the picture below, the GER Sweater features a high collar that has a bowl positioned with LEDs to reflect onto the self for instant biofeedback. These will act as a tele-display or external blush for the other. Located around the larynx, the visual interface replaces speaking, as the wearer’s truths are instantly expressed with color. The different colors could mean different shades of a person's emotion. For example - Green could mean Tranquil state of mind, blue means calm, red means nervous and in love, while light yellow means state of Bliss or Nirvana!

Having featured in shows and exhibitions around the world, including the Digital Fall 2013 Fashion Show in San Francisco in October and the Futurotextiles exhibition in Romania last month, the mood sweater could soon be hanging in your wardrobe. One hundred of the hi-tech custom-sized garments are expected to go on sale in March. Check out a video put up by the SENSOREE team to show the GER Sweater in action -

Those of us think that wearable technology is a way to the future, this project is one example of how one can put the wearable gadgets to a variety of uses. Only one thing comes to the mind - The GER Sweater technology makes you believe that the phrase 'wearing emotions on your sleeve' has come to life!
