Ford Partners with SunPower To Provide Focus Electric Customers With Electricity Generating Roofs

Continuing its aim to electrify the driving system and there by reduce pollution, #-Link-Snipped-# is up for another product for its customers. The company has teamed up with another business group sunPower to produce solar powered roofs to make gadgets and commodities emission free.

The roofs which are rated to produce 2.5 kilowatt solar electricity are able to generate around 3000 KWH of electricity annually. The electric roof concept came from the idea of charging the plug-in hybrids at night. Speaking in this regard, Tom Werner who is the president and CEO of the partner group SunPower said-
SunPower’s innovative partnership with Ford is a win-win for customers, providing a comprehensive sustainability program. By taking advantage of this program, Focus Electric customers can receive the added benefit of installing a SunPower solar system, the highest-efficiency, most reliable on the market today, generating the electricity needed to charge their vehicles.

The automaker is going for a Drive Green for Life under which the company is planning to make the ford focus electric energy sufficient. The company plans to provide its customers with an ecofriendly solution to meet the ever increasing power demands. The solar roofs consist of E18 Series solar panels. The panels are designed to generate more electricity than the conventional panels. The efficiency is almost twice than that of the traditional ones.  The product will be offered at a cost of about $10,000 including the taxes. However the price may differ according to your location and local taxes and other conditions. The product is provided with a monitoring system application to check the performance of the solar electricity generating roofs and that too on internet or more simply your own iphone!

Ford motor company has extended its plans of launching new hybrids and electric vehicles to static commodities. In the fleet of its zero emission cars, the automaker is planning to launch a total of 5 electric vehicles by the fall of 2013 in North American continent itself.

The present scheme is available only for Ford Focus customers and those interested will be contacted by SunPower for further information and installation. The auto giant is also trying to make the SunPower rooftop solar system compatible with C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicle to be launched and taken it to production sometime in 2012.
