Ford Partnering With Spotify To Try The Music Service’s First In-Car Integration

Today at Hackathon running in San Francisco, Ford, an U.S based automaker and Spotify, a Sweden based music service provider teamed up to explore the opportunities for developers in the in-car application development for new voice-activated Ford SYNC system. This is not an official partnership for these two companies. They were making a try there by giving the developers enough details about the Ford's new API and SDK, and giving some insight about SYNC, to let the developers hack the in-car entertainment for some good app development.

Ford SYNC applink is  a downloadable software program, on the 2011 Fiesta, allowing owners to access and control Android and BlackBerry Smartphone apps with voice commands and vehicle controls. This will help the drivers to use their Smartphone apps without taking their hands off the steering. Already Ford created the SYNC developer community with launch of new “#-Link-Snipped-#” , giving developers a pathway to partner with Ford on SYNC-enabled applications.

For Spotify, which is a growing music service provider which currently has service in 8 countries. It will be a big deal if this partership ends up as a sucess story. Spotify's role in this partnership today in Hackathon is giving a try for letting their music service on Ford's in-car entertainment applications through SYNC.

Ford was in a real urge in developing voice user interface using SYNC’s in-vehicle speech recognition system, making using of text-to-speech engine and providing commands for their mobile applications, and vehicle data, like speed, GPS location, and fuel economy. Their urge has a solid reason of letting the SYNC AppLink availablity in Ford Fusion, the Fusion Hybrid, Mustang, Shelby, Fiesta, F-150 and four other models, planned to release in 2012.
