Flexbook is designed by Hao-chun Huang of Taiwan. The concept device is portable and multi-use computing device which was shortlisted from over 1000 designs for a 2011 competition “A Life with Future Computing”, organized by designboom in collaboration with FUJITSU. Fujitsu is a Japanese company who strives to create a society that contributes to people’s everyday life. Their aim is to make computing a familiar part of people’s life so that the technology could be used conveniently by as many people as possible. The concept device features a flexible water proof keypad with a foldable 21:9 11-inch screen and a center joint. The device can be folded into a range of configurations for viewing, with a 180-degree configuration the device can be used as a tablet, for playing games and then by folding it from center it can be used as a book reader. The design of the device reflects its functionality: a tablet for browsing, a laptop to write documents, a book for reading e-books, newspapers or just a simple book in crowded areas and it is a portable device.

The device when full open is a laptop, which has a flexible keyboard that can be folded or turned to form a tablet. However nothing is known that whether the screen will slide down or the keyboard will be folded or turned to convert into a tablet. When the tablet is folded a bit, from the middle it will take the shape of a book reader (it looks just like a simple book reader), after joining the two ends of the book reader the device is closed. In this way it does the job of three different devices in just one, thus a great multi-use computing device. So you can carry it easily anywhere, you don’t have to make a choice between the three. The device has customizable easily swappable rubber skins with different kinds of textures.

Few years back this kind of device was never thought to be possible, but with a great and speeding development of the convertibles the device will soon hit the markets.
