Eric Jackson, Who is an analyst and hedge fund manager, has proclaimed the demise of Facebook in next 5 years. They planned to discover, how the 3rd generation of the web, which will be dominated by mobile,Will be Facebook's fall down. Will Facebook disappear in next 5 years? If so what will replace it?
In the next 5 years; the Internet will be dominated by the Apps. Apps will decided what kind of services emerge and which of the currently popular services fail. Unless something new and exciting comes up that gives users a strong reason to migrate (especially the early adopter community); FB will continue to exist; but growth might just be very limited.
as i am a production engineer , i like to share one thing. every product have a life cycle. the stages of life cycle are initial stage , growing stage, dominating stage, declining stage . so it ensures that there is an end for every product. regards, raqeeb.
Sure, the question here is - the time span. General Electric is in business for the last so many decades, Microsoft's in business for 3 decades and there's no sign of slowing down. Can we say the same about Facebook?
first you have to understand one thing, i am not telling about the company's business or a particular stream of business. its all about a product. for example take radio, now its not existing in our country. take nokia 2626, now its not existing in the market... so we cannot give assurance for the time span of a product's life cycle. but one thing i can say confirmly that facebook will decline.
I afraid Facebook is exactly fall in product category, it's like a radio service and If a service is able to adopt new environment and meet the challenges of its rival it will exist. On second example: you can't compare Radio vs Nokia <a phone model>, If you are not listening radio it doesn't mean it's dead, Radio is changed into FM radio services and it is fast growing in India. and future of radio is internet radio when data rate will be cheap and fast.
The advent of technology does not slow progress, but the ability to blend in and mix with the change, making them real and less likely to vary a lot with existing application is essential. Facebook still has a lot of new changes to make. But with their rapid growth, it is an unpredictable scenario. However, if Facebook teams up with all the other giants as well as smaller applications, it'll still live on as more than a social networking site. Now facebook also has access to other sites like Linked In, Skype, etc, which makes it really easy to use. In my opinion, facebook has evolved from being just a social networking site to even more. It is like a living room at your house where you can meet up with almost everyone on earth. Now a days, emailing is not (should I say 'never') done. People find it easier to use facebook. And I hope that the team behind facebook will keep improving it and bring in new innovations every now and then.
Yes, it should face competition. That's what kept the Apple and Microsoft industry developing. Both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were highly competent. And now, both the companies are staying strong. Where there is a will, there is a way!
mr.anoop...... u didn't understand me ..i am just relating radio and nokia. and more over for ur understanding i ll say laconically, YESTERDAY ORKUT, TODAY FACEBOOK, TOMORROW SOME OTHER... THATS IT
Five years back had anyone thought that Orkut would be out of canvass (NOTE: Consider that Orkut had slowed down drastically but still exist). So may be after 5 years FB would dip down drastically may not be phased out completely. Anyways, was the recent debacle of Facebook after inclusion of Ads and timeline was the reason of triggering this debate -CB
i agree with @crazyboy. i thought about orkut too. well, i think that facebook will exist after 5 years, but will be replaced, like orkut was, like twitter is being...
If you want to compete market you have to come up with something innovative and extra. But with that time collapse it may loose interest so in case of Facebook It is not going to close down. It will be there in sleepy condition.
I knew someone would ask this . We'll continue to exist in a bigger form - not necessarily 'online'. But as long as Internet's there - CE's not going anywhere.
facebook may be shutdown by its makers, but it will never be phased-out due to diminishing demands. according to the scenario today it looks like , facebook is evergreen. but we can never say what may happen in the next five years. facebook's advent brought orkut down on its knees, so something similar might take place then.
