Facebook at Work : Now use Facebook in office with your boss!

Gone are the days when you'd have to find out creative ways to use Facebook at work without your boss or network administrators noticing. It was an open secret that everyone used Facebook at work because no one ever wanted to be not on facebook while working! Now Facebook's given all of you an official reason to be on Facebook and use it to poke your boss or colleagues with the all the 'Facebook at Work' service. The new service works pretty much the same way as Facebook except that it's meant to be used with your colleagues who may not necessarily be your friends. All it means is that you can be 'openly' on Facebook and still be seen as hard-working employee.

The system's already live with a select partners who are testing the service before its full-fledged launch. Facebook itself has been using Facebook At Work within its offices for several years. Facebook director of engineering, Lars Rasmuseen informed WIRED that they have found that Facebook at Work actually helps them work more efficiently. Employees can get more work done with FB than any other tool. Facebook's working on global launch of the service in the coming months.

The biggest advantage of the new service is that it retains the same, familiar look of regular Facebook including news-feed, searching, groups, events, instant messaging service along with photo/video sharing. The only big change is that you'll have to create a separate ID for the service; if your company opts to use Facebook at Work service. The new users of the service need not have regular Facebook ID to use the at work service. Once signed up, your 'news feed' will display updates and content shared by your colleagues. Also, the posts that are shared more will be seen by the entire company.

An important thing to note is that Facebook makes money when you spend more time on Facebook and interact with the advertisements. It's quite likely that Facebook at Work will be a paid service and no advertisements will be shown to employees using the service. It's also not known whether Facebook will allow connection between your existing FB ID and FB@Work ID. The details will be unveiled as FB prepares for global launch.

The new service competes directly with services like Yammer, which Microsoft acquired several months ago. What do you think about the new service?
