“On the 10th Anniversary of DataWind’s PocketSurfer - the fastest internet device operating through a GSM SIM beating all other internet devises at that time in speed, we’re very excited to introduce these amazing new devices at unbelievably low prices. Intended to again create benchmarks in the smart phone category, DataWind’s new products break the affordability barriers of smartphones and bandwidth constraints of cellular networks to deliver calling facility and internet access to anybody who can afford a simple mobile phone. Currently simple phones in the market cost as much as the smart phone on offer by DataWind,” says Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind.

The phones will be available in India soon. The price of PocketSurfer5X, PocketSurfer5 and PocketSurfer3GX are Rs. 3,499, Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 6,499, respectively. "We are offering 40% lower prices than the cheapest smartphone available in the market. We have managed these price points because we make our own touchscreens in Amritsar and Montreal and these constitute 50-60% of the cost of the device," said Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli.

PocketSurfer 5X using a Linux Operating system on phone... phone's promises to give 3 hrs talk-time and 1 day standby. other two devices listed above has Android and gives 2 days worth of standby time.

If anyone has clue, I Just wanted to understand it better that the difference in standby time is because of OS or hardware (later two are using bigger mah battery?). @#-Link-Snipped-# any clue?

Either way, the device looks good for surfing need.

Very strange that (in above link) in product feature information for Battery they had mention as 3 /4 hrs talk time and 1 /2 day stand by.

I was expecting them to make a mention of technical specification so that we could gauge the battery power, but probably with the uber cheap price of the phone they do not wish to specify the hardware specifications.

Whatever, once the product will be out in market, people will anyways come to know about that.

    Dear all,
I am using pocketsurfer3G5, its internal apps memory is only 768mb. so you can` install apps limited. also flash is very low as compare to another android phones.
it has good internet speed but battery backup lags using data connection on. If you disable data connection then only battery gives good backup. otherwise if battery is 100% at 8 am then at 5 pm it remains only 10% even you don't use browser(other apps uses data connection.). speed is good. camera quality is fair.
    so it is fair mobile
