Comparative Study on Steel Structures and RCC Structures of G+3 Building

Project Abstract / Summary : Steel concrete composite construction has gained wide acceptance world wide as an alternative to pure steel and pure concrete construction. The use of steel in construction industry is very low in India compare to many developing countries. There is a great potential for increasing the volume of steel in construction, especially in the current development needs India and not using steel as an alternative construction material and not using it where it is economical is a heavy loss for the country. In this project the study of multi-storeyed buildings i.e. G,G+1,G+2,G+3 are analysed by using Staad-Pro software. Where design and cost estimation is carried out using MS-Excel. Programming and from obtained result comparison can be made between RCC and composite structure.

There is a great potential for increasing the volume of steel in construction, especially the current development needs in India. Composite construction essentially different materials are completely compatible and complementary to each other, they have an ideal combination of strengths with the concrete efficient in compression and the steel in tension; concrete also gives corrosion protection and thermal insulation to the steel at elevated temperatures and additionally can restrain slender steel sections from local and lateral tensional buckling. This project also includes storey stiffness, displacement, drifts, axial force in column, shear force in column, twisting moment, bending moments in composite with respect to RCC sections.

Steel-Concrete composite frame system can provide an effective and economic solution to most of these problems in medium to high-rise buildings.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : 1.Something which we can get the complete knowledge of both the designs ( steel and RCC)
2.Now a days the sand rates are increasing day by day what next if there is less supply of sand from the resources?
3. How to lower the dead loads from the RCC structure.
