Choc Edge Brings World's First 3D Chocolate Printer Just In Time For New Year

If you love Chocolates and are a self-proclaimed chocoholic, this stuff is exclusively for you. Just in time for New Year 2014 and Easter, Choc Edge has launched the world's first 3D Chocolate printer that will print really yum chocolates for you to gift people and treat yourselves. Back in 2011, World's First 3D Chocolate Printer Presented By EPSRC. It is basically a system that allows you to create your own designs on a computer and reproduce them physically in three dimensional form as a chocolate. The project led by the University of Exeter in collaboration with the University of Brunel and software developer Delcam. So, the question aries what does 3D printing of chocolate involve as opposed to the current chocolate making machines?

Well, 3D printing or Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) describes a host of technologies that are used to fabricate physical objects directly from CAD data sources. In 3D chocolate printing, chocolate is melted, tempered and deposited into 2D cross-section on a substrate like a printer printing a 2D image onto paper. The substrate is then lowered by a layer thickness and the deposition process repeats layer-by-layer to form a solid 3D chocolate product that is defined by a 3D computer design. So, basically you can have any kind of shapes and sizes for your chocolates right in your own kitchen (or shall I say man's lab?) What gives this 3D printer an edge over other methods is its ability to make creative, artistic, personalized and decorative chocolate products.
