Cheap, Efficient And Flexible Electronic Devices

Yes, what you have just read above is true. The e-devices will no longer be rigid, like the one which is too big to fit in your pocket comfortably or the one which is small but too hard to carry. Now, you will be able to carry light weight e-devices anywhere comfortably and without worrying about it getting damaged. These are flexible e-devices that can be folded, tilted or turned (upto a certain limit). Researchers have identified silk as the material that could be used to make such devices and this will also reduce the cost.

#-Link-Snipped-#After almost two years of study of silk, an engineering professor and his two post graduate students at Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University were able to use the soft, low-cost material for flexible e-readers, LED Displays and Radio-frequency identification tools. This silk is a liquid silk which comes out from worms. The silk is turned into a membrane that acts as insulators for flexible thin-film transistors. As the membranes allow current to pass through them easily, they improve the speed and the performance of transistors within the device. The professor Hwang Jenn-Chang said “We didn’t know first that it would be the best material, but after a few months of tests we realized it was quite viable”. Silk, a natural protein fibre normally used in textiles, can be easily purchased. The material would cost about US$0.03 per device. The future of e-devices is a substance squeezed from a leaf-eating worm. So the products formed using this will be cheaper and because of it’s above mentioned various benefits, it will also be more efficient than the in use e-devices. The researcher added later “No one else has thought to try this, or at least no one else has succeeded”. Accordingly, Tsing Hua’s researchers are talking with manufacturers about putting the unusual but cheap material to commercial use.

As the companies are introducing new e-reader models, and the prices are falling due to the increment in market entries the companies are looking for a better, cheaper and more efficient material which will make the e-devices available at affordable prices. We will soon be able to see paper thin Pads, Phones etc which will not get cracked easily. So it is going to be very easy for you to fold your e-reader, put it in your pocket and move on.
