Camera-Based Attacks Detection and Prevention Techniques on Android Mobile Phones

Project Abstract / Summary : Mobile phone security has become an important aspect of security issues in wireless multimedia communications. In this project, we focus on security issues related to mobile phone cameras. Specifically, we discover several new attacks that are based on the use of phone cameras. We have detected the attacks on real phones, and demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the attacks.

In this project, we have to develop an Android application such that whenever a user loses his/her phone, the spy camera could be launched via remote control and capture what the thief looks like as well as the surrounding environment. Then the pictures or videos along with location information (GPS coordinates) can be sent back to the device owner so that the owner can pinpoint the thief and get the phone back. That is, we first develop the threats and benefits of spy cameras. Then we present the basic attack model and two camera based attacks: the remote-controlled real-time monitoring attack and the pass-code inference attack. We run these attacks along with popular anti-virus software to test their stealthiness, and conduct experiments to evaluate both types of attacks.

Our system is going to detect an external application which is trying to access the camera and take stealthy pictures and videos of the owner of the device and send it to the server without user permission or users’ known. So that our application will detect such attacks on the android phone and then pop up the notification that “this” application trying to start camera and after that it will close that application. The next thing that application does is that take a log of this activity and then save it. So this is how we are going to prevent our important data from thief.
The very important module of our project is that we are going to track the thief, its exact location from the Google Maps so that we get the accurate satellite position of the stolen person through an effective solution. Using standard GPS location mechanism we are going to find the exact position. Note just a exact position of the thief but we are also going take an live picture and video of the thief and its surrounding. After gathering this all important data it will get store at the file directory and then it will directly send to the users’ EMAIL_ID which is get accepted when the user first register to its account information. After sending this important data to users’ Email address then this data will get automatically deleted from the user android phone. This all process is done by stealthy so that thief won’t able to known of all this.

The final most important thing in our project that whatever data we are going to capture are done by hidden way, in the sense that spy camera that means we are going to use the functionality of the spy camera and for starting this camera module we use an effective way i.e. Eye Recognition method. Through this way whenever the thief take his face in the front of the mobile our system will detect the face captures data and send it to the server. For capturing the data we use the eye detection mechanism in which using Rectilinear Separability Filter method. After detecting the eyes system starts its final module i.e. capturing details and sending it to the users’ Email address.
