Building Management Systems [BMS] Explained

When it comes to management, it is the system integration of every component that plays a Key role. This means that if a perfect management is required it is very much essential to synchronize all the components together. Same is the case with the Building management systems. This is totally a new concept and is being implemented in townships and huge buildings.

[IMG]BMS is a computer based control system that monitors different electrical and mechanical parameters like ventilation, lighting , power system, security system etc of the building or a township. This system has software as well as hardware. The software programmes are build up in a hierarchical manner using C language etc. BMS which integrate using the internet protocols are also available in the market. The building management systems were  employed earlier also but manually. The term “BMS” was used as a phrase for the first time in 1970’s. This system is basically a complex electronic feedback control system. It can retrieve data whenever required for the corrective measures.

The core function of a BMS is to manage the environment inside the building. It can also control the temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide level etc. So the basic functions of a BMS are controlling, monitoring and optimizing.

A BMS comprises of : illumination, electrical power and control, heating ventilaton and air conditioning system, security system, magnetic access card system, fire alarm system etc.

Following are the benefits of the BMS:

1.    Possibility of individual room control for internal comfort conditions.
2.    Efficient monitoring and utilization of energy.
3.    Money and time saving.
4.    Central automatic monitoring of the building or township.
5.    Computerized maintained schedule.
6.    Early detection of the problem.
7.    Ease of information availability and easy access to the data.

In the years to come, there are future developments expected in this system so that the occupants are even more satisfied and their life is more soothing.
