Blackberry Z30 And BBM For Android & iPhone Here - The Company Plans To Take The Highway

BlackBerry Ltd. has unveiled a large screen smartphone at an event in Malaysia on Wednesday. Called the Blackberry Z30, the smartphone features a 5-inch Super AMOLED touch screen (same as the Samsung Galaxy S4) and is the 4th phone the company has launched this year running on its new operating system - the Blackberry 10 OS. As we look at the Blackberry Z30 tech specs list, we find a
1.7 GHz processor with quad-core graphics that makes browsing web pages faster and games more detailed. Powered by the 2880 mAh battery, the Z30 is the largest ever the company has built into a BlackBerry smartphone. Combined with the battery enhancements in BlackBerry 10.2, users can get up to 25 hours of mixed usage, including up to 18 hours of talk time.

The other features of BlackBerry 10.2 include a new BlackBerry Priority Hub that provides one place to manage conversations and notifications. The Z30 also comes with stereo speakers and new antenna technology that dynamically tunes reception to provide better connectivity in low-signal areas. The premium feature and an USP - a refined version of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), which offers a preview of any message when it arrives in whatever app is being used, is made available in the Z30 too. The phone is going to be made available in the U.K. and the Middle East next week before rolling out to other markets into the holiday season. There is no official word so far about the pricing details or the U.S. availability. So, we will update you on that one as soon as we find out.

"The new BlackBerry Z30 smartphone builds on the solid foundation and engaging user experience of the BlackBerry 10 platform with features like the powerful BlackBerry Hub, its exceptional touchscreen keyboard and industry leading browser," said Carlo Chiarello, Executive Vice President for Products at BlackBerry. "The smartphone is designed for people looking for a smartphone that excels at communications, messaging and productivity. Having apps like the full Documents To Go suite that comes preinstalled, together with its 5-inch touch display, the BlackBerry Z30 smartphone gives you a best in class productivity experience on the go."

There are talks about the company laying off several hundred employees in recent months, including much of its U.S. sales team. It is reported that the company will eliminate up to 40 percent of its workforce by the end of the year, affecting several thousand employees. So, it is for sure that the company is strongly banking on the Blackberry Z30 making it big in the hot and bubbling smartphone market.

Also in news is the fact that Blackberry is making the BlackBerry Messenger or the BBM available on Android and iPhone this weekend. Earlier in the week, Samsung Nigeria let the news leak on Twitter that BBM would be available on its devices from September 20. That appears to have been a day off, with BlackBerry today confirming that BBM will be available on Android on September 21 and iPhone on September 22. Now, that is some news. BBM has been the pioneer in popularizing the data-packet enabled messaging. But, it rivals are growing much faster than it. WhatsApp, for instance, has more than 200 million users.

Let us know how many of you will be downloading the Blackberry Messenger this weekend. Your thoughts and opinions matter, so speak out in the comments section below.
