BitTorrent Shoot: A Cross-Platform Solution For Sending Photos & Videos

BitTorrent has launched a new app for Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms that enables users to send photos and videos across devices for a nominal fee of $1.99. The app is free to download for all platforms and once you complete three transfers it asks you to pay the aforementioned amount to send an unlimited number of photos and videos. The app does not charge any money for receiving files. The process of sending files is pretty straight forward, on the app home screen you tap on send which opens the phone gallery from which you can select multiple files, both photos and videos. Once the files are selected the app generates a one-time QR code which can be scanned by the receiving device with BitTorrent Shoot app. Finally with the magic of BitTorrent Sync technology the files get transferred in a jiffy.

One might argue that sharing photos and videos in a cross-platform environment can be done free of charge with the help of messaging apps and old school email attachments, so why should one invest $2 on the BitTorrent Shoot app? BitTorrent gives you two reasons. First, the BitTorrent Shoot app allows you to share large amounts of uncompressed photos and videos without consuming your internet data and second unlike other apps that rely on a cloud infrastructure where they store your files on a server, the BitTorrent Shoot app relies on a modified version of the BitTorrent protocol to transfer data that has been encrypted with an Advanced Encryption Standard AES-128 key in a peer-to-peer infrastructure. No files are sent to the cloud and they remain on the devices.

While talking to #-Link-Snipped-# the makers of #-Link-Snipped-# argue that users will be interested in paying the amount for the sake of their privacy and to enjoy an ad-free experience but they completely forgot about Lenovo’s SHAREit app that does the same job free of cost via Wi-Fi hotspot technology. So which one will you go for? Tell us in the comment section below.
