Biofest 2013 has been organised by IIT Madras. The will comprise of several events listed below -
BioBiz-
Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can't.
Are you inspired by the likes of Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Larry Page? Do you dream of starting up your own company in your garage? You just got lucky!
Biofest, the annual festival of Dept. Of Biotechnology, IIT Madras presents BioBiz, a Biotech oriented B-plan Competition which aims to inspire individuals to dream of, conceptualize, design and develop their ideas into implementable business plans. The event acts as a platform to the participants for conceptualizing potential breakthroughs in the diverse fields of Biotechnology and also provides a great opportunity to interact with successful entrepreneurs and angel investors.
The event also includes lectures (open to all) by the panelists providing crucial insights regarding establishing a Start up.
Cash worth Rs.10,000 is up for grabs.
Biodocks -
Thinking that Biotechnology is all about swotting and no logics involved? Do you have the ability to analyze and solve problems using innovative tools? Then, you are at the right place. Welcome to the amazing world of BIOINFORMATICS! Where there is life, there is communication. At the cellular level, communication is simple: a molecule binds to a receptor, initiating the first step in a cycle of life.
“BioDocks” is an event based on the ‘molecular modeling simulation softwares’ to predict the binding orientation of drug candidates to their proteins.
This event tests a participant's Biochemistry skills, applications of Molecular Modeling and adroitness with the software. The prediction of the three dimensional structure of the macromolecular protein structures of interest as it would occur in a living organism is the ultimate goal of docking

Biorobotics -
Biofest 2013 brings you the most exciting and diverse fields of engineering together through biorobotics. Biorobotics encompasses a diverse array of disciplines with a myriad of applications and deals with finding the simplest explanations for the intelligent behaviour of living organisms.
This year bio-robotics focuses on one of the most important application of robotics, the medical field. In every field of medicine it is a growing need to substitute hands on with robotics in various highly complicated surgeries of sensitive regions like brain, heart, etc. Bio-robotics deals with presenting an optimum, elegant and simple solution for surgeons to control machines without the slightest error. This event aims at exploring for the prime mechanism of various tasks that are tedious and sensitive to human hand.
Carnival -
A welcome break to rest the brain cells is taken half way with Daily events like Crosswords and Sudoku using amino acid acronyms which involves logical thinking ;Various blood tests conducted live give practical knowledge to participants; Painting competition provides an opportunity to show case creativity with lab equipments. These events are not only fun but also have the potential to engage people amidst all those brainstorming tech events promising huge participation irrespective of your background. It doesn’t require any pre-requisite knowledge, that means you stand a great chance to win if you are ready to put all your enthusiasm in one place “The Carnival”.
Forensics -
"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
But would this truth suffice to identify the culprit, from a range of suspects, one of whom committed a murder in the Department of Biotechnology?
Get ready to rack your brains to search for subtly hidden clues and trace evidences near the crime scene, uncover fingerprints, perform various hands-on activities at Biofest's one and only, unique mystery solving event.
If you are the one who is fascinated by murder and mystery, here's your chance. Don the role of a detective in Forensics at Biofest 2013 and nab the cold blooded killer!
GD Challenge -
Biofest GD Challenge presents an opportunity to all of you who are ever so opinionated, to take part in a highly intellectual session of healthy discussion on topics ranging from synthetic biology to advances in medical technology and genome sequencing. Here simple speaking and debating skills may not be enough, you will have to put forth a complete, rational and technical reasoning for your arguments. We are looking for participants who are opinionated as well as knowledgeable, a good orator and a genius, all rolled into one. The session will be moderated by highly distinguished judges who will be listening to all the points discussed, and choose the winner who can articulate their opinions about serious biotechnological issues in the best possible way.
Open Quiz -
Biofest Open Quiz amalgamates biosciences and biotechnology with the exciting field of quizzing. The quiz comprises of questions covering wide-ranging topics like genetics, software, industry, environment, movies and much more, with a pinch of the 'Bio' element, thus giving an opportunity for bio-enthusiasts and quizzers to test their mettle with the best.
Paper & Poster Presentation
"Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought " - Albert Szent
This event acts as a platform to unite all the inquisitive minds together .It is an opportunity for all the ingenious minds to showcase their original research work .The event promises to be a great learning experience by testing every participant's deep knowledge for the subject, innovation and their presenting skills . The works would be evaluated by an elite panel of judges.

We endeavour to indulge the enthusiasts, learn from the learned, and teach those with an open mind. We hope to inculcate a passion for this discipline and provide a platform for students and researchers alike to showcase their illustrious work. The theme of Biofest 2013 is Medical Biotechnology.
