Axis Vidius - Smallest Camera-Equipped Drone That Streams Live Feed

The 4.3 cm square quadrotor Axis Vidius is a flashy device. Axis claims it is the world’s tiniest camera-equipped drone. However, with the limited battery life, size and load-taking capabilities, we also feel concerned regarding the utility it provides.

On paper, the Vidius is powered with an incredible set of features. Equipped with a high quality camera, it enables live streaming and still capture at 420p during flight. The First Person View (FPV) ensures that the device can be handled from the pilot’s view point. Also noteworthy is the flexibility of orientation and design. A 6-axis gyroscope, in accordance to the conservation of angular momentum, maintains stability and provides the much-needed freedom of 360⁰ rotation. The “Trick Mode”, as Axis calls it, uses a pre-programmed algorithm that allows dynamic movement techniques, including flips and rolls.

Flight time for the Vidius is rated around five to seven minutes, and this requires a 20-minute USB charge. As for connectivity, it comes with a 2.4 gHz controller, but you may choose to operate it with your Android or Apple device as well. Transmitting the live video feed to your device requires just a WiFi connection. What’s more, you can also share the recordings to social media, blogs, messaging and email through a VIDIUS Drone App. A set of “bright” LED lights allow flight at night.

In and all, the device sports a comprehensive enumeration of traits and attributes and it has been engineered remarkably and designed creatively. The palm-fitting size, however, serves both as a boon and a bane. The considerably low weight means that even the lightest of breezes will send it crashing to the ground. But you also do not need to register it with the FAA (weighing less than .55 pounds), and so with the size, it is a fair compromise.

At $75, the Axis Vidius is available for pre-order now with a sale that ends on 7th January. You can ship it at $95 on or before 29th January even after the sale expires.
