ASUS ZenWatch 2 Tries To Emulate Apple Watch In More Ways Than You Can Imagine

As the Apple Watch tries to take control of the global premium smartwatch market with the help of loyal iOS supporters, Taiwanese electronics giant ASUS has launched its new Android Wear smartwatch that tries its best to ape the Apple Watch as much as possible. Meet the ZenWatch 2 which will be available in two different sizes, three stainless-steel case colours, with 18 different strap material and colour combinations. Apart from being heavily customisable the ZenWatch 2 features, wait-for-it, a metal watch crown. Now this metal crown just like Apple Watch’s Digital Crown allows you to flip through your notifications without blocking the AMOLED display panel on the ZenWatch 2 that is protected by a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3.

While Apple has three distinct watch collections, Apple Watch, Sport and Apple Edition, ASUS has not bothered with classifying its collection and gave its buyers a chance to infinitely customise their ZenWatch 2. The ZenWatch comes in silver, gunmetal or rose gold coloured stainless steel cases on which you are free to attach rubber blue, orange, red, and taupe coloured rubber straps or khaki, brown, gray, blue, and orange leather straps or stainless-steel link bracelets that match the ZenWatch 2 colour. If you are willing to spend more money you can stick a leather strap with embossed diamond pattern and Swarovski crystals. No, there isn’t an 18k gold variant in the ASUS ZenWatch range.

Just like the Cupertino tech mogul, ASUS has tasked its software department to create a Watch Face Land app that houses tons of quirky watch faces for every need. While the ASUS ZenWatch 2 has been made to work with any Android Wear smartphone there are a few perks if you are a ZenFone user. You get ASUS ZenUI integration in addition to activity and fitness tracking and a Remote Camera that lets you view your smartphone’s view finder both rear and front and adjust zoom while taking photos. We aren’t sure why this will be of any use because of the obvious reasons.

The good news here is that unlike the Apple Watch the ZenWatch 2 has an IP67 water-resistance rating and uses a magnetic charger to replenish its battery quickly. The bad news is that ASUS has not set a release date nor a price tag for the product. As you watch the promotional video below you might be thinking the same thing as us, Apple’s lawyers will be looking to earn a fortune out of a copyright infringement lawsuit against the Taiwanese electronics company.
