Moments after unveiling iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus - Price, Specs And Features Unveiled At Grand Launch, Apple took the covers off its smartwatch at its star studded launch event. The Apple Watch will be available in three collections in two sizes. Depending on your preference you can choose a 38 mm or a 42 mm Apple Watch from Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition collections. The Apple Watch will be available in early 2015 with prices starting at $349 (21,293 INR). Apple Watch will hook up with iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus running the latest version of iOS 8 using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. All Apple products have a few characteristics that make them rise about the competition and the Apple Watch is not an exception to this rule. In this article we shall discuss the features in detail starting with build quality.

Build Quality

As expected from Apple all the three collections have been crafted out of premium materials and offer many customisation options. The 18 models of the #-Link-Snipped-# are made out of highly polished stainless steel and space black stainless steel and their displays are protected with sapphire crystals. Band options include a link bracelet, a Milanese loop, and a band made from high-performance fluoroelastomer.

Apple Watch Normal

The 10 models in #-Link-Snipped-# as evident from the name are available in silver and space gray cases made out of lightweight anodized aluminium. For tough conditions, Apple has protected the displays by adding a strengthened Ion-X glass and claims that the fluoroelastomer band which is available in 5 different colours is soft and durable as well as sweat and chemical resistant.

Apple Watch Sport

Finally you have 5 #-Link-Snipped-# which have cases made out of 18-karat gold. Apple claims that their metallurgists have made the gold twice as strong as standard gold. The display is protected with sapphire and the bands look quite beautiful.

Apple Watch Edition

Of course you get the option of changing the style of the watch anytime you like by switching the bands which are easy to remove and install.

Hardware

Apple Watch 1

Apple has always been known for innovation and the Apple Watch houses many examples of Apple ingenuity. The Apple Watch has a flexible Retina Display whose tiny electrodes can differentiate between a tap and a press. This gives Apple and other app developers an additional input feature. For example on the music app, a tap on the play button pauses the song and a press invokes the music player menu. On the back of every Apple Watch you find a Zirconium back cover that has four sapphire lenses. Infrared and visible light LEDs along with photo sensors detect your heart rate. The Cupertino tech giant has built a S1 SiP (System in Package) which handles the computing tasks on the Apple Watch. The new Taptic Engine (vibration alerts) on the Apple Watch along built-in speaker makes notifications more discreet. The back also houses an inductive charging solution inspired by the company’s MagSafe technology.

X-Factors

Apple Watch

The best design aspect of the Apple Watch is the Digital Crown. The Digital Crown allows you to scroll, zoom and navigate through your Apple Watch without obstructing the display. It also acts as the Home button and a convenient way to access Siri, Apple digital personal assistant.

Next we have time keeping. We previously used to brag about how our conventional watches show the accurate time depending upon what went into making them. Apple knows the foremost thing about a watch is time keeping and it takes the task very seriously by employing various technologies that maintain the time between 50 milliseconds of global standards. If you travel to a new country the Apple Watch knows your location and changes the time zone accordingly. Apple has also put additional effort in designing 11 watch faces that range from traditional watch faces, to timelapse face, astronomy face, sundial, real-time 3D model of earth and much more.

Watchfaces

Finally we have the Digital Touch conversation that allows you to communicate with other Apple Watch wearers. You can share a message, doodle, tap and even your heartbeat with your near and dear ones. You can talk with them via Wi-Fi too.

Software

Instead of having different screen with app logos, Apple uses the entire screen with the help of responsive logos that change in size. Important apps are shown in big icons and as you scroll to any direction other apps begin to appear. Various apps of the Apple Watch include Calendar, Maps, Passbook, Music, Apple TV and iTunes, Remote Camera, Stopwatch, Timer, Alarm, World Clock, Stocks, Weather, Photos and more. You can overview all your notifications and important information with Glances.

Apple’s developers have found an interesting way to make Fitness apps for all. The Fitness app on the Apple Watch is catered to your needs. Fitness goals vary for sedentary workers and athletes. You get your daily data of Move, Exercise and Stand. Details of these operations are explained in the video below.

Before we wrap up the article we would like to inform developers that Apple has released the WatchKit which provides tools and APIs for you to create applications for its smartwatch. I do like the interface but it's not something others can't mimic. I think it's just too thick for my taste. Plus, the price of the product is exorbitant. Overall - not buying anytime soon.

Yep, it is indeed very pretty; but the small 'cut' at the base is killing it.

instead of having ugly 360 degree bezel , having that little blacked out dial is no issue. I think its moto 360 which is going to kill all the pseudo smart watches.

I think we need a Moto 360 Vs. Apple Watch showdown.
A specs by specs comparison and a video featuring both on one table. That ought to do some good.

@ Abhishek : I think that pretty much applies to all (pseudo )smart watches , not just Apple. There is no compelling reason why anyone should invest in a smart watch unless you have good amount of money - to receive calls, sms , listen music , have sports /health apps on a bulky mini phone tied to your wrist and on a huge phone in your pocket.

U missed this Swaroop."Following Apple's iPhone 6 announcement on Tuesday, Samsung and HTC have taken to Twitter to remind you that they've been making big-screened phones for quite some time (Samsung invokes Steve Jobs quote to rain on Bigger than Bigger iPhone 6 plus size parade). Samsung #-Link-Snipped-# from late Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs about his opinion regarding bigger phones."

#-Link-Snipped-# - It's no longer Steve Jobs' Apple. The current management may not agree with whatever Jobs believed in. I doubt Steve Jobs would have OK'd a smart watch. I won't be surprised if iPhone 8 Plus ships with a Stylus.

I really love the Note series from Samsung. It's perfect for business and entertainment both.
