Along with OS X Yosemite Apple has unveiled the latest iteration of its mobile operating system, iOS 8. iOS 8 will run on Apple devices such as iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display. The beta version of the mobile operating system and its SDK have already been released for iOS Developer Program members and the final version will be delivered to end users in fall 2014. So what new things have Apple brought to its customers, we shall discuss all of them in the following paragraphs.

    iOS 8 (5).

Since photography is such an important part of any smartphone, Apple has revamped the Photos and the iCloud Photo Library apps. The photos are arranged automatically on your device as well as on the cloud. With smarter editing apps, the Photos app can automatically straighten horizons, adjust colour and help with deeper fine tuning of photos. The iCloud Photo Library makes sure that all the adjustments done on the photos are reflected across all your devices.

    iOS 8 (7).

To compete with rival messaging apps the native Messages app on iOS 8 has introduced features like Tap To Talk, gestures for fast sharing of photos, group messaging, location sharing, auto-delete and a do not disturb mode. Users can share and view multiple photos in a single message.

    iOS 8 (6).

There is good news for fitness buffs as well, the Health app on iOS 8 combines all the data from wearables and apps and shows them at once place. This helps the health conscious to get an overview of all the data at a single place.

    iOS 8 (4).

To make sure that users use the phrase “Damn you, autocorrect.” less often Apple has updated the QuickType keyboard by making it more personalised. The QuickType keyboard takes into account who you are speaking with and on which app. It tries to learn from your communication and suggest phrases for faster communication. Just a heads up, the keyboard learning is encrypted on your iDevice and never sent to Apple servers.

    iOS 8 (1).

The biggest change in Apple’s policy can be seen with the new Family Sharing feature. Users can add up to six family members in this service that lets them share their iTunes, iBook and App Store purchases. Since Apple has landed in soup previously with accidental in-app purchases by children, it now allows parents to monitor these inadvertent activities with ‘Ask To Buy’, which is parental permission for in-app purchases.

    iOS 8 (3).

For an even in-depth look in to the iOS 8, we would like you to go through the official press release and product preview page. iOS 8 seems pretty impressive. Just wondering if it is an conscious effort of Apple for leaving iPhone 4 (one of the phone which has seen major design change for iPhone series) out of the list.
  2. Satya Swaroop Dash
The most probable reason for not including the iPhone 4 in the list is because it has gone out or production in the US and the iOS 7 which was pushed to the handset has caused some performance issues.
  3. Rajni Jain
Goes out of production, So does iPhone 4s, right?
  4. Satya Swaroop Dash
The iPhone 4S is still being sold in countries like India at a cheaper rate and it works well with iOS 7 which makes pushing the iOS 8 much easier.
