Acer Launches Iconia One 8 and Refreshes Iconia Tab 10 Android Tablets

Acer has released updated versions of its Iconia One 8 and Iconia Tab 10 Android tablets. Instead of renaming the products by adding a number increment, Acer has just changed the product numbers to make buying decisions more complicated, a strategy ASUS is well known for. The new Iconia One 8 (B1-820) boasts of Acer Precision Plus technology that includes touch sensors that are smaller and more precise than conventional ones. Smaller touch sensors can recognise strokes from fingertips and styluses with more accuracy. Acer is selling its own Acer Accurate Stylus as an optional extra but says you can use any 2mm fine tip writing instrument such as a graphite pencil to sketch on the 8-inch HD display (1280 x 800) with Zero Air Gap and IPS technology. Acer throws in a couple of software enhancements with the Iconia One 8 to sweeten the deal of the budget tablet. You get an Evernote-esqe EZ Note app for creating notes, a double tap to wake feature with optional app boot, screenshot capture with three-finger pinch, quick access widgets, reading mode and a system management app.

Iconia One 8

Underneath the hood, we find a 1.83GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphics entrusted with the task of running Android 5.0 (Lollipop). The company includes 0.3MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera which are quite unnecessary in a tablet. While the #-Link-Snipped-# skips on the battery capacity of the Iconia One 8 it claims that the tablet will be able go for 8.5 hours between trips to the power outlet. The Iconia One 8 B1-820 weighs 355 grams and is 9.5 mm thin. The tablet will be sold in ten colour variants starting from the month of July in the North America region at prices starting at US$149. Europe, the Middle East and Africa markets will be getting their hands on the new Iconia One 8 from this month at prices starting at €179.

Iconia Tab 10

The refreshed version of the Iconia Tab 10 is aimed at the education sector. The 10-inch full HD resolution display is now coupled with Gorilla Glass 4 protection and anti-fingerprint coating for durability. The front frame and the rear cover are now being made from strength materials to withstand school usage. Underneath the hood, you get the same Intel Atom Z373 SF chipset with a 1.83 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and Intel HD graphics. The tablet is now compatible with Google Education ecosystem to bring study materials for classroom teaching. The Iconia Tab 10 has the same Acer Precision Plus technology and EZ Suite of apps. The Android Lollipop tablet that weighs 540 grams and measures 260w x 176d x 9.7h mm has USB 2.0, NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity options. Since this tablet is aimed at school kids, cameras are eliminated from the mix. The Iconia Tab 10 will be sold in 16, 32 and 64GB variant with a microSD card slot to expand storage. The Acer Iconia Tab 10 will be available from the month of May at prices starting at $299.
