Acer Announces The First Chromebook Featuring 15-inch Display
With the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 to begin in a few days, as is expected the pre-CES product promotions have already commenced. Taiwanese multinational Acer has announced the first Chromebook with display as large as 15.6 inches. In the month of December, there were some rumours about such a device but there was no official confirmation. But now Acer has confirmed that they will unveil the 15.6†Chromebook at CES 2015. Although most people might prefer to work on a more light-weight device and hence more portable Chromebook but it is possible that Acer is targeting a different set of customers with this large product.
The most unique feature of the Chromebook would definitely will be the screen size. Acer said that the greater width would provide the users more area to view multiple tabs and apps. Besides the size, in the display Acer will provide the buyer with two options. The first option is a standard HD display with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The second option is the full HD display with resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Obviously, the option one will be cheaper than option two and hence might be preferred more by the budget minded customers.

Besides the display, Chromebook 15 (CB15) offers two choices in its processor too. The user can either go for the 5th generation Intel Core i3 or next generation Intel Celeron processors. CB15 will be the first Chromebook to provide the 5th Gen Intel processor. It also contains one 3.0 USB port, one 2.0 USB port and a SD card reader. Acer has given two choices for RAM: 2 GB or 4 GB and two choices for storage: 16 GB or 32 GB. Besides all this, it has the general capabilities viz. HDMI port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Considering the escalation in screen size as well as hardware, it will be unfair to expect the battery life of 13 hours as in Chromebook 13. Acer said that CB15 will have a battery life of 8 hours with a single charge. The device will weigh about 2.2 kgs, the increased weight imminent because of the increased size. Acer said that the model with 16 GB storage and 2 GB RAM will price $249 in US and will go on sale soon. International price and date of sale however were not disclosed by Acer.
