3D Holograms Ready To Be Projected From Your Smartphone!

Ostendo, a Californian start-up company is ready to bring the future to our present. The company's display innovations now allow projecting 3D holograms right from your smartphone. Ostendo has promised to introduce tiny 3D hologram projectors in 2015, capable of projecting 5000 ppi imagery and controlling the projection angle, brightness and colour of individual pixel over the projection area. Be ready to get a 56 48 inch Narendara Modi to deliver his speeches over your handsets in the general elections of 2019 in India. How cool is that?

Just one chip can deliver a very usable image and Ostendo says that an array of such chips can produce even complex images and projections. The journalists at the WSJ were offered a demo of the technology that showed a dice spinning in air. The dice appeared quite sharp and realistic no matter which angle it was viewed from.

The technology is still being developed and the engineers say that it's in the early stages. The chip that will ship in 2015 will be capable of projecting 2D videos only. However, that's not the end of the story. Hussein S. El-Ghoroury, founder of Ostendo says that the second chip, capable of projecting life-like 3D images will undergo production just a few months after the launch of the 2D chip.

We can already imagine the amazing applications this technology will have. You will be able to actually have your chat buddies projected over your smartphone while you chat with them. Ostendo has gotten several leading handset manufacturers on-board and we may see the technology being used in smartphones, mobiles, tablets and even the smart-tables. We'd ask all our fellow engineers to let their creative juices flow and let us know where would they like this technology being used.
