NEC Smartphone Technology To Guide The Path Of Incoming Calls

In the vastness of the mobile world, communication has been made accessible under various circumstances. In the same context, there is also a need for different communication methods with respect to a user's location. NEC has developed a smartphone solution to gauge the appropriate path for an incoming call. This is done based on the software's calculation of the smartphone's movement.

A user is provided with various communication options such as voicemail, email and SNS. Depending on the location, the user might want a different communication method on specific occasions.  For example, when a user is at his workplace he may want to choose e-mail as his incoming call service. NEC provides users the facility of a smoother communication by detecting user's activity and automatically recommending the best path for incoming calls.

The software developed by NEC functions by collecting and analyzing data from the user's smartphone which allows the software to judge if the user is traveling, at a walking speed or stationery. After the software has concluded the state, it uses this information gathered from sensor data analysis to automatically recommend the appropriate contact method for the user, which might be the standard ring tone, voice message or e-mail. This improves the user-friendliness of a smartphone and provides users with an easy and efficient solution to handle incoming calls keeping in mind one's location.

NEC will introduce this solution at its stand 8A125, Hall 8 at Mobile World Congress 2012, to be held in Barcelona, Spain, from February 27-March 1, 2012. It is expected to be commercially available by June 2012.
