        Focus on physics ....mechanics .. Thermodynamics .. Streneth of Materials .. Design .. these are basic topics of mechanical Engineering .. Master Them .. Try to leran s/ws like autocad ,pro E ,Catiia ,ansys ,matlab ,..by the end of your 2nd yr only ... Hardly take 30 days to finish each s/w .... if you want a good mechie job .. try to do an internship .. after 6th sem

        Paper presentation in IITS might help you .. theres also something called paper presentation in conference .. ie research paper .. seminars n workshop i dont think that value much .. go for in plant traning .. anf try to Internship .. that will be a major boost .. learn s/w related to mech .. . if you have time .. during vacations .. try to do project at IIT ..
