Interactive Visual By Google Shows Arms Trade Worldwide

Chrome experiments has been experimenting with JavaScript and HTML5 to showcase a browser's abilities. One such experiment has been recently released by Google, which visualizes all the arms and ammunition trade worldwide. The Visual, developed in open source WebGL Globe, shows import-export of military as well as civilian weapons. It not only depicts worldwide trade from 1992 to 2010, but does so in an interactive manner. The user can slide the mouse over the globe to rotate it, so as to depict different countries.

Each country's name is accompanied with the cost of total war material imported and exported (for instance, Brazil has imported arms worth $17,177,806 and exported  $268,047,861 in 2010). Clicking on a specific country reveals it's statistics through orbs where the blue ones depict imports and the red ones are for exports. Intensity of the red/blue colour is proportional to the volume of trade, thus brighter colour means higher trade. Check boxes on the lower right corner work as filters allowing the user to view the stats of their interest, for example the user can view only imports of military as well as civilian weapons.
