Google's Bug Has Disabled Around 150,000 Gmail Accounts

Today morning, about 150 thousand Gmail account holders were shocked to find out that their emails, google chats and attachments were all gone. Google has explained that less than 0.08% of all Gmail users were affected by a bug that completely reset their accounts.

[IMG]The bug was so effective that some people even found  a welcome message in their Gmail Inbox when they first signed in today.

But, there is no reason to panic as for now the Google said on it's #-Link-Snipped-# that: “Google engineers are working to restore full access. Affected users may be temporarily unable to sign in while we repair their accounts.”

So, all that the affected users can do is to be patient.

Meanwhile, it will be a good idea for all of us to backup our Gmail accounts. I just checked in www.gmail-backup.com but it is reporting Drupal errors and warnings.

So, another method of backing up your Gmail accounts are:

Create a new Gmail account and under Settings –> Accounts and Import –> Check mail using POP3 –> Add POP3 email account, enter the email address of your main Gmail account that you want to backup.

Within an hour or so, the online mail fetcher program will pull messages from your main Gmail account and will copy them to your new “backup” account. Another option is that you use Cloud-to-Cloud SaaS Backup

Remember the old saying: Prevention is Better than Cure.

Let's hope that you'll get your account back. Even my Gmail information has lot of useful information and since Google said 'Don't Delete Your Mail', I've got hundreds of MBs in it - which is bit difficult to backup.
