Red face About feeds!

Hey guys!
Since I am new to the blogging world and exploring new stuff each day, I have been experiencing few doubts while doing that. I just want to know what are FEEDs all about? I am pretty confused about the same! I have been experimenting with it in my blog though but I am unaware what exactly it does..
Experienced ones kindly help!!

Okay, let me explain.

This is a web 2.0 concept. In earlier days (web 1.0 days), you had to visit any frequently updated site for the content. But feeds bring the data to you. A Feed is a data format. Most of the frequently updated sites (including CE Forums) have feeds. You may subscribe to those feeds and get the updated content delivered at a central place [that is your feed reader].

If you want your blog readers to get the content delivered to their feed readers, you should publish a feed. Your users will then subscribe to your blog feed. Whenever you update the blog with a new post, your readers will be get the content delivered, automatically.

If you want to check if any site publishes feed, just look for the following icon -

I hope this should get you started.

to precisely define FEEDS : it is a document(mostly in XML) {some might call it format as well} which contains content or items with links to greatet data . two main web feed formats are RSS and Atom

"Publishing a feed" or "syndicating" are two general terms used to describe making available a feed for an information source, such as a blog.
RSS- really simple syndication

hope that helps

Hi techfreak,

We humans are a lazy lot, seriously. Who is going to take the pains of having to open a browser, type in the url, and read the content ... would it not be great to have the same content delivered to me ... on my desktop .. how cool is that!?!

Now, what it means for the author, is a painless way of monitoring your blog ... of tracking how many people have commented on his/her blog, et al.
