Talking CE Project: CE Firefox / IE Plugin - What say?

Challenge for the crazy computer science engineers

Fellas, I was just wondering if anyone (individual/group) from you can come up with a search plugin for Firefox / IE ? Too easy?

On the similar lines, can you think of any other plugins for browsers which will enhance the CE experience?

Looking forward to your replies!

Hey! Nice idea Biggie!!

Umm, just a thought here (No Idea how to do it though, will have to put in some effort on this one though.) How about -
1. Making the forum available as an RSS feed or some other for that matter
2. Making a plug-in which enables the users to read that RSS and post entries as well!

Now, logically, sounds do-able (*prepares to duck if someone asks yours truly to do it* ). We used to have this software called as DBabble which had a similar functionality. It was a bulletin board + it could integrate with one's outlook (ala newsgroup). If we can do the same here (I know slightly digressing here), then itll be even more accessible. Wot say?

Another idea that comes to mind, is a FF plugin which is like a messenger. Small and simple. Btw, I personally have no idea how to go about making FF plugins, can someone shed light on that please?

There goes the open-search plug-in... post feedbacks/suggestions. Didn't have much time over this, so your suggestions would help.

Feat.
1. If you are logged-in, will put up the content as a key words field and launch the search result.
2. Not-logged-in, will add the text to key words field and open the search page for a captcha (i'm amazed why do we have a captcha for searching!).

Place the xml in "Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins" and restart FireFox

-NiLaY

I dunno how am supposed to upload the file, so putting it as a text. Copy-paste this in a file (call it ce.xml) and place it in "Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins".

What else? I say a fancy extension (add-on) in firefox. Discuss and list out features it should have... I'll be glad to make one.

Thumbs up Re: CE Firefox / IE Plugin - What say?

( First creation of CE Labs! )
Hey Nilay!

This is super!

1. BOTS - they do the zombie searches on CE and waste lot of bandwidth That's the reason we have CAPTCHA enabled for guest searches. Best way is to have 'Remember Me' option checked while logging on to CE. That makes the search really fast
2. I just installed the CE Search plugin and it works well!

Now if someone can come up with a neat graphic with letters 'CE', (xHx, where is your photoshop?) we'd upload it on our server & CE search plugin will look great!

Once that change is incorporated, we'll officially announce the CE Firefox Plugin release!

Way to go Nilay,

-The Big K-

There is much more we can do before we call it a FF plug-in. This one is a open-search script just for search calls. If we need to call it a plug-in, it could mean much more than that. Anyway, I am crawling the CE for things to be put on a nice CE Bar. Here is what I got to-
1. Login from the Bar (without hitting the page)
2. Extreme shortcuts (links to fav section/threads)
3. [Probable] Notification of replies/watched-threads
4. Formatting messages
5. Posting messages
6. ... err... don't have anything to go here, but m too lazy to delete the numbering.

What say?

D00d,

You are spreading fresh scent in CE Labs. Are you thinking of developing a CE toolbar? That would be a nice idea. Let's collect random ideas first and then finalize the features for the 1.0 release

8. Latest Posts ( Dynamically updated )
9. Real time chat with online members ( possible? ) (this would take care of CE Messenger! )
10. <Some feature that will help us spread CE's name>

All servers inside my brain are up & running, expect more bullets. Appeal to all CEans - drop in your ideas!!

Wow, good work Nilay! Can't wait to try this plugin out! But I suggest you guys dont make it too bloated, so maybe it wont take up much resources hehe, why don't you make one for Opera too.. the colour sorta matches the red of CE
