Nokia Money Service To Be Stopped Around March 15

The Mobile Money/Payment concept has taken a huge leap with the ever growing subscriber base in the mobile industry along with the introduction of Google Wallet and other such services which have been around for quite some time. But one of the largest handset manufacturer, Nokia, is planning to stop its mobile money service worldwide. The company wishes only to continue with its core business of handset manufacturing rather than venturing into other grounds.

In India, Nokia started its Financial Services in 2010 with the involvement of Yes Bank and Union Bank. As of now there are around 1.2 million users of Nokia mobile wallet service and 2 lakh Nokia Money subscribers in India. The Nokia Money offered services like recharging of pre-paid accounts, paying of utility and other bills, balance inquiry, etc.

Nokia Money users will be receiving official information about the discontinuation of the service from Nokia after March 15th. However, the subscribers will be given three to four months of time to spend the remaining money in their accounts before the service is completely scrapped. The Financial Services users will not have to face any such problem as their respective banks will be taking over the operations from Nokia.

The company said that it is working with its technology partners, banks and other agents to plan the future course of action to help its subscribers safely get over this issue without having any dispute as such. Nokia has been losing grip of handset market in India for quite some time now and it is obvious that the Finish handset manufacturer would try to regain its position by concentrating on its core business.
