Facebook Want Button Plugin May Be Coming; E-Commerce Sites Rejoice?

After the like & share buttons revolutionized the way people express themselves online, Facebook may now be coming up with a new button plugin called 'Want'. Developer Tom Waddington from #-Link-Snipped-# has found out that a Want button has been added to the Facebook Javascript SDK as an XFBML tag – <fb:wants>. So, we may soon see something like, "Amy and 65 others want this" on a Facebook timeline. Since, the button has still not appeared among other social plugins on #-Link-Snipped-#, its been said that this button will only work on Open Graph objects marked as “products.”

We are all habituated to seeing the 'Like' button on websites and blogs across the internet, in fact sometimes we search for it for quick-sharing of the links on our Facebook walls. Our developer friends make use of the Facebook's Open Graph and a third-party app authorization to make a customized 'want' button. If Facebook indeed plans to roll out a 'Want' button, it may open up a whole new, powerful commerce solution. People will start using it to create their own wish-lists and e-commerce sites will be able to collect database about what people are desiring. Here's what it could look like -

This move from Facebook also means that, the company will be able to show ads to a very specific target audience. Does that mean there is a direct competition to Google AdWords? Will e-Commerce sites willingly embrace the new plugin? Time will tell.
