Dell's Project Sputnik Uses Ubuntu 12.04 On XPS 13 - Developer's Dream Machine

Project Sputnik is Dell's six-month pilot program with a goal to create a machine designed specifically for mobile and web developers. Through this new developer laptop initiative, Dell is trying to cater to the needs of developers by providing them with the perfect machine that understands the developer woes & provides solution by making their experience powerful yet simple. So, they are running the Canonical's 12.04 LTS release of Ubuntu Linux on a Dell XPS 13 ultrabook machine.

On the Ubuntu 12.04 running machine, Project Sputnik will provide some of the general developer tools, but users will be able to make their choice regarding the developer profiles like Android, Ruby or Javascript etc. from the github repository. Dell will also try to provide optimum hardware compatibility. The project team will like to seek a feedback through #-Link-Snipped-# about different aspects of their novel idea such as tech specs, software required and so on. Dell hasn't talked of a product that they are ready to launch in the marketplace as of now. They are going forward with it for six months and see if it can be termed successful by evaluating the feedback from some key users. If everything turns out as per the plan, we might soon witness a product exclusively for the developers with cloud integration to create an all-in-one software engineering platform.
