So, What's The Best Screen Size For Tablet? Answer: 9".

The post-PC era is heavily dominated by the tablets. The size of the screen has become an important weapon in the tablet war. Looking at the tablet market, we can broadly classify the most popular tablet sizes into following categories: 5" (Galaxy Note), 7" (Galax Tab) & 9" (iPad). The choice of the screen size has become even more critical as the market expands almost at equal pace in all of these three categories. While the tablet giant Apple has kept the iPad in the 9" category; few of the leaked notes claim that Steve Jobs was 'very receptive' to the 7" iPad. Apple may even release a 7" version of the iPad in the coming months. Of course one size won't suit everyone; but if we were to pick just 'one' out of the three sizes, which one would be the best option? I decided to find out by answering the most basic question.

Why Do We Use Tablets?

I've used the tablets in all the three categories before forming my opinion.  Tablets, primarily are portable entertainment devices. Most of the people use tablets to watch movies, read books, play games and listen to the music. The business side of the use would be checking emails, using collaboration apps (a la Yammer), compose documents, make presentations and so on.

After trying all of that on all the three screen sizes, it became apparent that most of the tasks require bigger real estate. Reading books, emails, playing games, watching movies is relatively more pleasing on a bigger screen. Though my 5" Note is bigger than most of the smart phones in the market, I keep using the stylus over fingers to type (I use swype). The 7" version, basically tones down what you get on 9" screen; making it more obvious to pick the 9" over the 7" tablet.

Given the most typical uses of tablet, I'd choose the 9" as the best screen size for tablets. Do share your views below.
